Safe and Sound

Hey guys!

Well, I made it. Overall things are going really well. I have amazing flatmates and have already met a ton of Americans to run around with. I have a ton of stories but I only have a few minutes before I have another Orientation.

My luggage: 1 pink rolling suitcase-42 lbs, 1 blue rolling suitcase- 50 lbs on the dot, Zebra duffle from Best of Everything, so hopefully it holds out for me.., My backpack, and My Coach purse.

After getting in to the airport!

This is the plane outside my gate K8 (which if you say it fast is Kate =]])

My view from the seat right before they de-iced the plane with some sort of green something. But I sat next to a girl from Mexico who was studying to get her PhD in Engineering at York. She was really sweet, but I sounded pretty dumb after she said that and I was an education major haha! Oh well..

As soon as I got off the plane, anyone who was under the age of like 30 I was talking to because I was bound and determined not to be shy. I met up with the Leeds people who I met in Chicago to go through customs and get my luggage with, but I wanted to find people from UCLan to figure out where we were supposed to go. So I found this girl, Brittany from California and then we found a group of about 5 other people like Chris from Missouri, Brennah from Arkansas, and Charlotte from Dallas. There's a ton of Americans here and we're all from crazy different parts of the US. Then it was like 8:15 and we decided that we needed to find where we were supposed to be so we followed the signs to Terminal 2/Busses and Coaches because that's what our directions said. Little did we know, they were two different places. So we decided to go to the busses and coaches station which was about a 15 minute walk, mainly outside. So we got there and there was like two or three other Americans there, I know Mel from Connecticut but I don't remember the rest. Anyways, we all sat down and were just talkind and stuff and thats when I called you at like 8:45ish I think. Well, at like 9:45 we still hadn't seen anymore people or the coach or anything so I went to Security and the accent was hard to understand so he had to repeat like everything beause it was like a scottish accent. But anyways, finally he was like oh, you need to be in Terminal 2, not here, these are all liscenced coaches. So I told the rest of the group that we had to go to Terminal 2 which was like another 15 minute walk across the airport, btu we decided to split up just in case it was wrong and then we would get the other group once we found the coach, but it was already 9:45 and the thing was supposed  to be there at 10 so me and Chris and Brennah got all of our luggage (allof the other girls had just as much as me so I was glad for that!) and headed for Terminal 2, we got there at like 5 til and found a group of other UCLan students from America like Chris from Montana and Stevie from New York and others from Germany waiting like we were, but no sign of the coaches or the red shirts. So I went to Security and Bob the British indian guy didnt know what was going on either, so he was making announcements allover the airport looking for uclan people and sending me to check outside and upstairs on the departures level and finally I had him calling the school and I talked to somebody at the school by like 10:20 and she was just like all nonchalant about it and was like oh, we're running a few miniutes late, we should be therein about 10 minutes at the bus and coach station. So we all hauled all of our crap back to the bus and coach station and got there by like 10:40. Well when we got there the group that we left there was gone. Great, right? They got on the coach and left without us or went to where we just were. So by this point I'm sweating from hauling all of the luggage and running around everywhere so we were just standing outside talking with the Germans.  Then, out of nowhere this lady came up to us with a UCLan sign and asked us if we were waiting for the coach.AHHHHHH! Then I was excited haha! I guess it was all the way down at the other end of the coach station, so we took all of our stuff down there and got on with the group from earlier. By 11:30 we were on our way to UCLan. Needless to say, time is not really very strict here. That will take some getting used to.

Here's what British bills look like

My saving grace! It's a little bit sweeter than in America, but it got the job done

I never thought I would miss Walmart so much, but this is about as close as it get's.

When I wet to use my debit card for the first time at Wilkinsons, it wasn't signed. So the chick gave me a pen and it didn't work so I signed with it anyway on the back of the card all sloppy. Then she ran it and everything was fine, but then she gave me the receipt to sign and when I handed it back to her she was comparing the signatures and had to call over a manager to double check that they were okay because she didnt think they were close enough. I was like, um you watched me sign it in front of you, Bitch! (Okay I didn't say bitch, but it was implied because this happend on Wednesday and I was a little EXHAUSTED) but anyway, she called the manager and I explained to her and eventually it was fine.

You have an individual sink in your room, how cool is that?!

Overall, I'm doing really well. I love my flatmates and have already met a ton of American friends to go out with and run errends around the town with. Believe it or not, they want me there for help with directions around town! Haha I guess it's just because I'm so afraid of being lost that I'm like constantly looking around making sure I know where I am. We're taking a trip to Manchester tomorrow =]

I can already tell that I am going to have an amazing time here
